‘Supporting agriculture into the future’

Olivia applied for funding from BFMT in March 2012 prior to starting an Agricultural Business Management course at the University of Reading

Following her first year she secured a work placement at Farm Consultancy Group in Andover. Prior to this she had worked with both cattle and pigs, however her ambition is to a Farm Business Consultant.

In her own words:

“I had a brilliant first year at Reading University studying Agricultural Business Management and I am very glad that I chose to study this course. I learnt a great deal, with the course covering all aspects of British agriculture, and with lots of studying I successfully passed my first year exams.

The money you gave me helped a great deal, helping to fund vital books for my studies, including The Agricultural Notebook and the Farm Management Pocketbook. It also paid for a week’s stud tour that we went on in June to Yorkshire, where we visited many different farm enterprises including Upland farms and the John Deere headquarters, to learn about farm diversification.

I did a work placement at Farm Consultancy Group where I got to visit many dairy farms in the Hampshire area whilst shadowing the consultants who were dealing with clients. Also recently over the winter months I completed another placement and the grant greatly helped to cover my petrol costs as I had to drive my Dad’s car from Reading to Hampshire every day.

I would like to thank you again for your help of funding.”
